Of all sports-related injuries, 40% occur in kids who are 5-14 years old. More than 3.5 million children are injured playing sports each year. If your child is starting a new sport or exercise program, you want to make sure their health isn’t at risk. Adults who are new to a form of training or exercise can also benefit from a sports physical. When you have a physical at our office, we’ll make sure you have the right physical condition to push your body to its limits.

Do you undergo continuing education?

Yes. As a sports chiropractor, Dr. Murphy stays informed on the latest research and innovation. He takes regular continuing education, including an annual seminar with the American Chiropractic Board of Sports Physicians™ (ACBSP®).
What will occur during a sports physical?

We look out for anything that affects your ability to safely participate in your sport or exercise. We may analyze your family and health history and your vital signs. You’ll be evaluated for any signs of injury. We’ll test your muscle strength and flexibility. If there are pre-existing conditions, we’ll identify whether they will compromise your ability to train or compete.
What if you discover a problem?

If you have an injury or issue, you may still be able to participate in physical activity with some modifications. If you have a knee problem, for example, you could be able to wear a brace and do some specific exercises to increase your flexibility and strength. We will tailor our recommendations to your situation.
What type of sports injury is most common?

One of four sports injuries is related to the foot or ankle. Your feet bear as much as 20 times your body weight! Proper training, the right footwear and taking precautions will protect your feet. The injuries you might get include a sprain, tendonitis and more.
Why should I seek out a sports chiropractor for my foot injury?

If you have been injured during your sport, there is no one more qualified to help you than Dr. Murphy. We have on-site digital X-rays to confirm the source of your problem. We’ll develop a personal care plan to make sure that you recover as quickly as possible. If you don’t get the attention you need, you may have a long-term problem with inflammation and damage to the area.
Do you adjust extremities?

Yes. A significant part of Dr. Murphy’s training has been dedicated to addressing the extremities of the body.
What solutions do you use for sports injuries?

In addition to chiropractic care, we may recommend physical therapy. Physical therapy can help you regain your flexibility and strength.
How do I know which option is best for me?

One of the many tools we utilize to determine your needs is a musculoskeletal pain assessment. Since pain can affect all areas of your body, this evaluation will detect fractures, scar tissues, joint degeneration, torn ligaments and more. Based on the results, we’ll create your treatment plan.
