Murphy Chiropractic opened its doors to the public on June 11th 2012. Dr. Jerry Murphy has over 10 years experience as a licensed chiropractor and recently had the opportunity to return to Rockingham and continue his career. Dr. Murphy continually strives to build and maintain relationships within the community and give back to the town where he was born and raised.
As a Chiropractor with experience, Dr. Murphy is committed to promoting the optimal health and well being of his patients. Dr. Murphy uses a "whole person" approach. This approach to wellness means looking for underlying causes of any disturbance or disruption (which may or may not be causing symptoms at the time). This allows one to make interventions and lifestyle adjustments which are necessary to optimize the conditions for normal function. Using this unique approach, Dr. Murphy is able to help to accelerate and/or maintain ones journey to good health and well being.
Dr. Murphy graduated high school locally in 1991, received his undergraduate degree from East Carolina University in 1997, and his Doctorate from Life University College of Chiropractic in 2001. Although certified in several chiropractic methods, he primarily utilizes Diversified technique. He concentrates his efforts on treating and educating his clients on the importance of health and wellness. His emphasis lie in combining a joint approach to problem solving utilizing rehabilitative measures of physiological therapeutics, a soft tissue approach, and chiropractic technique. Dr Murphy has a vast array of experience, while treating individuals suffering from sports injuries, both work injuries and auto accidents, as well as adults and children of all ages. Common conditions seen include neck and back pain, arthritis, pinched nerves, headaches, sciatica, numbness and tingling, carpal tunnel, shoulder and knee pain, muscle stiffness, sprains and strains, shooting pains, as well as neuropathies.
Dr Murphy first became interested in Chiropractic while in high school. He was suffering from back issues developed over many years while playing sports and weight lifting. After exhausting all traditional methods of orthopedic involvement, including meds and a MRI which proved negative, he went to the local chiropractor. This experience was not only life changing, while finally living free of pain, but also changed his career direction. He had always wanted to become a doctor, but wanted an alternative to surgery and traditional methods. There were other members of Dr Murphy’s family who had continued to suffer at the hands of failed back surgery. Through his own back problems, he found a natural approach to health through chiropractic care and his career took off.
Dr. Murphy is married and has three beautiful children, Dalton 12, Zenna 2 years 8 months, and Cole who is 8 months old. Dr. Murphy loves the outdoors, especially boating, hunting, fishing, camping, and spending time with family and friends.
Life changing experience
While early on in his career, Dr Murphy had the pleasure of treating a 15 year old boy in a wheelchair. Doctors had diagnosed his condition as idiopathic petit mal seizure disorder. He was confined to his wheel chair 24 hours per day, could not talk or feed himself, and all of his joints were completely fixed in either flexed or extended positions. The boy would have as many as 40 seizures per day leading to projectile vomiting. After all medical intervention had been exhausted and his parent’s patience at wits end, this young boy was brought in to see Dr Murphy. A series of chiropractic adjustments were performed daily for two weeks. With amazement to Dr Murphy, by week three the patient’s seizures had decreased to less than 10 per day. By week four, he was free from seizure and the vomiting had ceased. This case solidified his belief in just how far reaching chiropractic treatment can be and to never lose hope in finding the right solution.
